About Sara

Currently a Curatorial Associate at The Museum of the City of New York, I am a project coordinator for exhibitions and publications. This role coalesces my background in and passion for art history and material culture, editing and publications, interpretive content and exhibition design, and film and media production.

I cultivated these interests while pursuing a B.A. in Fine Arts from Amherst College, involving both art history and studio art, and a Master's in Decorative Arts, the History of Design, and Material Culture at the Bard Graduate Center. While pursuing my M.A. I worked as an assistant in the BGC's Digital Media Lab, supporting students and staff in their increasing exploration of digital resources for individual, class, and long-term research projects. I had ample opportunity to learn about numerous digital tools for research, and taught myself several as I researched and constructed the now extensive how-to section of our website detailing the functionality of various types of software most frequently used by our academic community.

The past years have stimulated my fascination with the possibilities of digital media for museums, education, and community development, and I enjoy investigating both its promise and its conceptual challenges (see Digital/Design Portfolio). I am also experienced in publications—two years ago I completed a summer internship in the editorial departments of the The Magazine ANTIQUES and MODERN Magazine, and I am now a repeat contributor to MODERN.

I enjoy painting, drawing, and photography, with numerous additional hobbies including: exploring New York, hiking, dancing (especially ballet and tap), eating really good food, birdwatching, genealogical research, various crafts, and making and listening to music (I play viola and guitar).
